The Different Types of Contact Lenses

Daily Disposable Lenses

Daily disposable lenses are designed to be used once and then thrown away. Extremely convenient and hygienic, these lenses are not only comfortable but easy to wear. No need for cleaning, disinfecting or storing but alternatively a fresh, clean new lens everyday! Perfect if you want to wear them only for occasions or for sports.

Reusable Lenses

Reusable lenses are soft lenses that require you to clean them and then store them in a contact lens case until you are ready to wear them again. These lenses are very economical but need to be replaced either on a two weekly basis or a monthly basis.

Astigmatic Lenses

Astigmatism affects many people. It is when the surface of the eye, the cornea, is rugby shaped instead of a football and results in blurriness and distortion at all distances. Contact lenses can correct astigmatism and they are available in both daily and reusable wear.

Extended Wear Lenses

You can sleep in these and wake up to clear vision. Ideal if you tend to dose off in your lenses or your spectacles or you travel a lot and don't want to worry about falling asleep in your lenses. Also suitable for those that are near sighted and can't go very far without their spectacles and those that hate inserting and removing their lenses.

Multifocal/Bifocal/Progressive Lenses

As you get older the eyes start to find it difficult to focus from far to near objects especially when it comes to nearby objects such as reading. If left untreated it will lead to eye stain and headaches. These lenses allow you to see at all distances and are available in daily disposable or reusable lenses.

Rigid Gas Permeable Lenses

RGP lenses are hard lenses and made of durable plastic, therefore they don't tear as easily as soft lenses. However most hard lenses need to be removed, cleaned and disinfected every night. They are often used to correct high astigmatism and conditions such as kerataconus.

Coloured Lenses

These come in a variety of colours and can be for a subtle change in eye colour or a dramatic one. They are fantastic for a night out or how about a different eye colour for every month? Available in daily as well as monthly lenses.
